Activities and events to add to your calendar for August
Tuesday, August 2nd, 10 am – 11 am
Get to Know The Greenway Walking Tour
Greenway Gateway: 2573 Lake Haigler Drive, Fort Mill, SC
On this guided tour, visitors will learn about each of the five Greenway entrances and the activities available at each location! You will also discover the history of the land and why it’s such a treasure.
This tour is free for members. Visitors must pay Daily Use Fee. All participants must register. Daily admission fees can be applied toward an annual membership should non-members decide to join at the end of the tour.
Tuesdays, 11:30 am – 12:30 pm
Lunchtime Yoga at the Amphitheater
Comporium Amphitheater at Dairy Barn Entrance: 291 Dairy Barn Lane, Fort Mill, SC
Break up the workday with yoga, fresh air and instructor, Suzanne Braunlich. This yoga class focuses on bringing awareness to the mind, body, and breath through a variety of yoga poses at a gentle pace. The emphasis is on alignment and self-awareness for a safe practice. All are welcome, from beginners to seasoned yogis! Classes will include pranayama (breathing) and asanas (yoga poses). Please bring your own yoga mat and water bottle.
When: Tuesdays, April through October
Ages: All ages welcome. Please keep in mind we try to keep a calming atmosphere in the class and we ask that everyone keeps voices low and stay mindful of other yogis.
Cost: $12 per person, members get a 50% discount

Sunset Yoga at the Amphitheater
Comporium Amphitheater at Dairy Barn Entrance: 291 Dairy Barn Lane, Fort Mill, SC
Enjoy a Samdhaana Yoga class that focuses on energetic bodies and patterns of movement. At the heart of Samdhaana is the choreography of patterns of movement that directs and guides the flow of energy through the body. That flow of energy is powerful, promoting healing by restoring balance physically, mentally and emotionally. Working toward that balance also creates space, a sacred space that allows for deep reflection, inner development, a sense of peace, and, for those seeking it, spiritual growth.

Live Music at the Gateway Canteen
Come out to the Anne Springs Close Greenway’s Gateway Canteen for good food and good music. With a talented line-up of local singers/songwriters scheduled Friday and Saturday evenings through October, the Canteen will offer guests a laidback outdoor setting, along with delicious food and beverage options to make dinner easy. Limited indoor and outdoor seating is available at the Canteen and on the Domtar Forest Porch, but guests are welcome to bring lawn chairs and blankets for their own enjoyment.
Guests may bring outside food, but formal seating is for Canteen patrons only. No glass, tents or outside alcohol is allowed. Entrance to the Greenway is free for members; non-members pay daily admission fees. Well-behaved dogs on leash are welcome to attend; please remember to Leave No Trace.

Paddle and Pancakes
Work up an appetite kayaking on the still waters of Lake Haigler! Your guide will provide you with all the equipment and basic kayaking instruction you need for an enjoyable morning. After the tour, enjoy a delicious pancake breakfast served at the Gateway Canteen.

Saturday Yoga

Unwind from the week and bring relaxation into your weekend with yoga, fresh air and instructors, Chiara Underwood and Lindsay Erickson. Come out on Sundays for Brunch at the Gateway Canteen! Enjoy a variety of sweet and savory items on the buffet in addition to a number of platters, a carving station and cook-to-order egg and omelet station!
Friday, August 12th 6 pm – 8 pm
Kayak Fishing
Come enjoy two favorite pastimes for a unique evening on the water. A basic knowledge of fishing and kayaking are preferred. All equipment provided but you are welcome to bring your own fishing rod and PFD. A knowledgeable instructor will guide you through the event. Fish at your own pace and enjoy some time outdoors. Close-toed shoes are required and remember to bring a water bottle.

Get to Know the Greenway Van Tour
Tour by van to all five Greenway entrances to learn about the activities and history of the Greenway. This tour is free for members. To receive discount, members must sign in during registration. Non-members pay the regular daily admission fee and special weekend access during registration.

Beginner 2 Mountain Bike Clinic
Adventure Road Entrance 104 Adventure Road, Fort Mill, SC
Beginner 2 MTB Clinic
This program is perfect if you completed the Beginner 1 program and want to progress your skills; have been riding trails for several months; can ride 1-2 hours at a time with brief rest stops; can ride an average of 5-6 mph pace on easy terrain; are comfortable with body position, braking and gearing, but want to get better; are ready to ride more smoothly and increase speed a little and want to learn how to corner more efficiently.

Kids MTB Clinic (ages 6-10) and Youth MTB Clinic (ages 11-14)

Kids MTB Clinic (ages 6-10), 1-2:30pm
To get the most from this program, the child should already be able to put on own helmet; ride without training wheels; ride in a straight line on a field or paved area and operate brakes on his/her bike.
Youth MTB Clinic (ages 11-14), 2:30-4pm
For children with limited or no trail riding experience. Children ages 12 and up may also participate in the adult Beginner 1 Clinic with an adult.

Intermediate Mountain Bike Clinic
Adventure Road Entrance 104 Adventure Road, Fort Mill, SC
Intermediate MTB Clinic: This program is perfect if you have completed Beginner 2 (or the Level 1 clinic in 2020); have been riding regularly for more than 6 months; can ride over 1 hour without rest stops; are consistent in beginner riding skills of body position, braking, and gearing; feel you are not improving, keep riding the same way; are ready for more challenging terrain; are ready to increase your ride distance; want to increase speed; want to be more efficient on your rides, and are considering participating in a mountain bike race

Beginner 1 Mountain Bike Clinic

Beginner 1 MTB Clinic: This program is perfect if you are new to exercising or fitness activities, can bike or walk on a mostly flat, paved surface at least 45 minutes, are new to trail riding and want to maximize enjoyment and safety in a new sport!

Intro to Paddleboarding
Lake Haigler Entrance 2573 Lake Haigler Drive, Fort Mill, SC
Experience Lake Haigler by paddleboard! An ACA certified stand-up paddleboard instructor will introduce you to the skills and techniques of paddleboarding. Whether it’s your first time on a paddleboard or you’re just looking for a few pointers on your existing technique, everyone can benefit from this small group clinic. All equipment is provided.

Sunset Kayak Tour
Lake Haigler Entrance 2573 Lake Haigler Drive, Fort Mill, SC
Time to leave the trails and hit the water to see nature from another perspective. Spend the evening kayaking on the still waters of Lake Haigler! Our guide will provide you with all the equipment and basic kayaking instruction you need for a leisurely guided tour. We will then head out on Lake Haigler and explore the environment that surrounds it!
Sunday, August 21st 1 pm – 3 pm
Girl Scouts Camper Badge
Rush Pavilion at Lake Haigler Entrance 2573 Lake Haigler Drive, Fort Mill, SC
Start your camping adventure! During this badge program, we will discuss setting up a campsite, including how to leave no trace and pitch tents, before we discuss fire starting. Once we have a good fire going, we will assemble a campfire meal. The program will conclude with a short hike or time around the fire. Program covers most components of the Junior Camper Badge.
Ages: All ages welcome (children must be accompanied by an adult)
Cost: $18 per Girl Scout, free for troop leaders/chaperones; no member discount

Monday, August 22nd 6 pm – 8 pm
Kids’ Kayaking Clinic
Lake Haigler Entrance 2573 Lake Haigler Drive, Fort Mill, SC
This fun, engaging class introduces kids to the sport of kayaking! We will meet at the Kayak Launch and fit everyone with the appropriate gear. We will discuss how to choose a safe kayaking location based on your ability, demonstrate how to maneuver safely and how to enter and exit the boat. Once we’re out on the water, we will cover some basic paddling techniques and make sure paddlers feel comfortable with fun kayak activities. A water bottle and close-toed shoes are required.
Ages: Participants must be between 8 and 15 yr. Parents/Guardians must stay on property throughout the program and provide a cell phone number upon arrival.
Cost: $32 per person, members get a 20% discount

Archery 101
Bob Reid Field Trial Barn at Adventure Road Entrance 104 Adventure Rd, Fort Mill, SC
Children and adults develop basic archery skills in our introductory archery class. All equipment is provided. Personal equipment will be inspected by an instructor prior to use. Water bottle and closed toe shoes are required.
Ages: Ages 10 and older
