April is easily the best month of the year in this part of the Carolinas. The Come-See-Me Festival fills Rock Hill for ten days, farmers markets start opening across York County, Charlotte SHOUT! takes over Uptown for more than two weeks, and the concert calendar gets serious with Bruno Mars and Cardi B both playing the Charlotte metro. Charlotte SHOUT! Arts Festival

Charlotte SHOUT! is one of the most impressive free events the Charlotte region puts on all year. Now a well-established spring tradition, the festival runs 17 days and brings together international and local performers across immersive art installations, live music, and food experiences spread throughout Uptown. The scale of it — 17 days, multiple venues, free admission — makes it easy to catch on a weeknight or turn into a full Saturday in the city. For Fort Mill, Lake Wylie, and Indian Land residents, it's a short drive and a completely different kind of evening out.

The Big One: Come-See-Me Festival — Rock Hill

If you've lived in York County for any length of time, you already know Come-See-Me. If you're newer to the area, this is the event that defines Rock Hill's spring. Running for more than 50 years, Come-See-Me is the largest all-volunteer festival in South Carolina and consistently draws well over 100,000 visitors across its ten-day run. It has its own traditions — frogs, fireworks, Glencairn Gardens in full bloom — and it's the kind of community event that earns a place on the calendar every year.
The festival kicks off with the Come-See-Me Parade through Old Town and builds throughout the week with live music daily at Glencairn Gardens (bring a lawn chair), the Beach Bash, Broadway Night, Moonlight Jazz, Hops in the Park, and a full slate of races, competitions, and family events.

The Master Gardeners of York County bring together a wide variety of plants, seedlings, and gardening knowledge in one place. If you're working on your yard this spring, this is worth the trip.

BBQ Cook-Off at Winthrop Lake — April 24–25. Tastings, People's Choice voting, and SCBA judging. Free to attend as a spectator.
Tailgate Party and Fireworks Extravaganza — Saturday, April 25. The festival finale at Winthrop Lake. Skydivers, live entertainment, and fireworks to close out the ten days. Arrive early for a good spot.

It's the kind of event that sets York County apart culturally — not everything here is a race or a farmers market, and this festival is worth supporting. Charlotte Wine + Food Week

A week-long event connecting wine experts from around the world with Charlotte's top chefs. Wine + Food Week is a proper grown-ups' night out — or several nights out if you pick and choose across the week. Concerts
Two major concerts are happening in the Charlotte metro in April that are worth building a night around.
Cardi B — Sunday, April 12 Spectrum Center, Charlotte, NC Tickets from $81 One of the biggest names in hip-hop on a Sunday night at Spectrum Center. Worth it if you're a fan — and worth knowing about if you want to avoid the traffic in Uptown that evening.
Bruno Mars — Wednesday, April 29 Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte, NC Bruno Mars at a stadium. This one will be an event. April 29 is a Wednesday night, so plan accordingly if you're coming in from Fort Mill or Lake Wylie — Uptown will be busy well into the night.
Both shows are at major Charlotte venues accessible via I-77 from York County.
Tips Before You Go
Come-See-Me events are spread across multiple venues throughout the ten days. A few minutes with the schedule at comeseeme.org before picking your days will save a lot of guesswork — there's enough going on that the planning pays off.
April 25 is the single busiest day of the month in York County with three races, the Come-See-Me finale, the Fort Mill artisan market, and Pickin' on the Porch all on the same date. If you're running a race that day, plan around road closures.
For Charlotte events, parking in Uptown is easier if you plan it in advance — especially for the concerts and SHOUT! events. The light rail from south Charlotte is worth considering on busy nights.
