Thanksgiving Weekend in Fort Mill, York County and Charlotte — Where Family, Food, and Community Come Together
The holidays in Fort Mill always bring a little extra magic — twinkling lights downtown, local shops dressed for the season, and the smell of something delicious coming from every kitchen.
Whether you’re welcoming family from out of town or looking for a few ways to unwind after the big feast, here are some of our favorite things to do around Fort Mill and York County this Thanksgiving weekend.
1. Novant Health Thanksgiving Eve Parade – Uptown Charlotte
Date: Wednesday, November 26, 2025 | Time: 5:30 PM
Location: Tryon Street, Uptown Charlotte, NC
Make the short drive to Uptown Charlotte and kick off the holiday season at one of the Southeast’s biggest Thanksgiving traditions — the Novant Health Thanksgiving Eve Parade. Featuring elaborate floats, local performers, marching bands, and festive lights, this parade has been delighting families for more than 75 years.
Arrive early to find a good spot along Tryon Street, or catch the parade broadcast live on WBTV if you’d rather enjoy it from home. It’s a fun, family-friendly way to start the weekend celebrations.
2. Stroll Through Downtown Fort Mill and Enjoy the Lights
Downtown Fort Mill transforms into a charming holiday scene after Thanksgiving. Take an evening walk down Main Street to see storefronts lit up and decorated for the season. Grab a warm drink from Olive’s Mud Puddle or Hobo’s and enjoy the small-town sparkle.
3. Running of the Turkeys 5K – York, SC (Thanksgiving Morning)
Date: Thursday, November 27, 2025 | Time: 8:00 AM
Location: Downtown York, SC
Kick off Thanksgiving with a fun, family-friendly 5K in historic downtown York. Runners, walkers, and stroller joggers are welcome—perfect for working up an appetite before the big meal. Costumes encouraged!
4. Shop Small on Saturday
Location: Downtown Fort Mill | Date: Saturday, Nov 29
Support your local business owners by shopping small this weekend! Many boutiques and specialty stores in Fort Mill, Tega Cay, and Lake Wylie offer special discounts and giveaways for Small Business Saturday. It’s the perfect way to cross off a few gifts while keeping your dollars local.
5. Explore the Anne Springs Close Greenway
Location: 2573 Lake Haigler Drive, Fort Mill
After a busy holiday week, take a peaceful walk on one of the Greenway’s scenic trails. You can rent bikes, walk the lakeside paths, or just enjoy a moment outdoors. The fall colors usually hang on through late November, making it a beautiful backdrop for family photos.
6. Relax, Reflect, and Give Thanks
After the rush of the week, spend Sunday slowing down and reflecting on everything there is to be grateful for — from family and friends to the Fort Mill community that makes this area feel so special.
“Home isn’t just where you live — it’s where you feel connected.”
